The day at a glance
The Melbourne Cup is run on the first Tuesday of November and is a public holiday across metropolitan Melbourne. It is the centrepiece of the Spring Racing Carnival, which also includes Derby Day on Saturday 31 October and Oaks Day on Thursday 5 November.
Book early
Demand for cars on Cup Day is very high, because so many people want a ride at the same hours. Booking well ahead is the best way to secure the car you want and the pick-up time you need. Use the instant quote to see your fare, then confirm the booking.
A pick-up timed to your day
- Tell us where you are starting (home, a hotel, a restaurant) and where you are going.
- Share the number of guests, so we can send the right vehicle.
- Add any stops, such as a lunch before the racing.
- Ask for a return pick-up, and give a flexible time window.
Your driver follows the plan, and our dispatch team is open 24 hours if anything changes on the day.
Whole-day or point to point
If you want to move between a morning event, the course and an evening dinner, hourly hire keeps one car and one driver with you, with a minimum of 3 hours and up to 12. If your plans are simple, a transfer there and another home may be all you need.
Groups and corporate tables
For a group, the Executive Van seats up to 7 and the Mercedes Sprinter up to 12, so everyone arrives together. Companies hosting clients often book several cars for one day. See our General Transfer service for how that works.
Getting home after the last race
The ride home is where a chauffeur is most welcome. Instead of queuing for transport with a large crowd, your driver is arranged in advance. Please agree on a clear meeting point and a time window, and keep your phone with you so your driver can reach you.
Check the official details
Gates, road arrangements and public transport for Cup Day change from year to year. Please check the Victoria Racing Club and Public Transport Victoria websites for the current details. For our service in the city, see our Melbourne chauffeur service.
